Whittled Word for February 17, 2015
12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). 13 [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight. Philippians 2:12-13 AMP
If you’ve ever attempted to work out consistently, you know that proper nutrition and sleep are necessary. Pure determination will only sustain your sessions for a short time. The same principle is crucial in this passage.
The working out is dependent on the working in!
It is not solely your determination, but His desire that initiates and ignites this powerful model. Your fleshly attempts will ALWAYS fail because they ignore your utter inadequacy and flawed motives.
Your flesh naturally craves divine or lessor approval. But your spirit will erupt with a dawning delight as you uncover the power and purpose that God alone initiates and implements in you to cultivate the Salvation He gave.
Today could be your best workout ever!
Have you been trying to work it out without His working it in? How does that look? How can you begin to surrender to His in working to witness the outworking of His purposes?
